Arlette’s Miniatures
Handcrafted upholstered furniture in 1/12th, 1/16th & 1/24th scale.
I started making upholstered dolls house furniture in 1993. I started because I could not find the right styles of furniture or fabrics that I wanted for my own dolls house.
I can still remember my first ever project – It was a very wonky blue velvet chair!! Alas I don’t have it anymore ……….I have come a long way since then and have made many commissions, which I really enjoy, the challenge of something new. The most special commission I have ever made was a chair that I upholstered in my own needlepoint which took me 5 months to complete. It was a pretty roses bouquet on a pink background.
I attend Miniatura twice a year. The show never ceases to amaze me with all the talented artisans that attend with their wonderful work. I have met so many lovely visitors from all over the world and I love chatting to them and discussing each others dolls houses and projects.
I had always worked from my log cabin in the garden however since moving house it is in a spare room and garage until my next log cabin gets built. I need my own space as I can spend a long time on each piece. It depends on the item but anything between 7 to 10 hours goes into each chair or settee.
