Merrily Mad Miniatures
A little about myself and my journey into the world of miniatures.

I have always loved miniatures since my Dad made me my first dolls house, he worked on it every time he was home on leave from the RAF. I received it for my 8th Christmas, it was beautiful with a white exterior and a bright red roof and chimney, it had a gorgeous rowan tree ( my favourite ) painted on one side. My Mum had decorated the inside and it was done in lovely pastel shades of pink, green and blue. I fell in love instantly with the wonder of the tiny exquisite pieces that filled it, from that Christmas morning I was hooked.

It was many years later that I ventured into making miniatures for a house that my husband bought me for my 45th birthday. It was a lovely little cottage made by a local man here in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. It just cried out to be a witches cottage with its rustic charm and quirky appearance.

And so my search for witchy miniatures began, back then they were practically non existent just a few things that could lend themselves to witchy themed items with a little tweaking here and there. Eventually I began making my own minis to go in to the cottage as it was just too hard to find the items I had  in mind.

Once my cottage was complete I began (after some nice compliments and encouragement from friends and family) making miniatures to sell to other collectors. Today I have my own studio in my home (a posh word for a spare room 🙂 ) I sell online from my website and my Etsy store.

My miniatures can take anything from hours to weeks to make, it all depends on what it is that I’m making. I make everything from furniture to food with the majority of them having a witchy theme.

My ideas can come from books I’ve read, TV programs or films I have watched but its mainly my own very active and sometimes strange imagination that throws up the ideas that lend themselves into becoming the miniatures I make and sell.

I have just recently started selling again at dolls house fairs, I just love the atmosphere and being surrounded by great people with the same passion for miniatures and I truly do admire the amount of talent that these fabulous people have. I must admit that the number one thing I love when selling at fairs has to be the customers, I have met some really nice people and I love listening to them proudly describing their own dolls houses that they are decorating and dressing.
