Dr Mini Designs
When I was a kid, I played with dolls a lot, always collecting items around the house to turn them into miniature furniture and items. This hobby paused when I entered high school in 2007 and later studied Architecture, where I drew many houses and spaces in 3D software, daydreaming about how people would live in them. In a way, viewing entire houses and spaces in 3D software was like seeing a dollhouse, so my love for miniatures never truly vanished—it was just hidden beneath life’s growth and stresses.
In early 2023, as I neared the completion of my PhD thesis, I started making miniatures again to ease the pressure. It all began with a kit gifted to me by my husband for Christmas. After that, I decided to make my own minis from scratch, starting with a kitchen room box. I love everything related to the kitchen, artist studio, and sewing, even though I’m not great at sewing. Posting my creations on social media garnered many positive reactions, and my family encouraged me to start a business selling my minis. That’s how Dr. Mini Designs was established. I was finishing my PhD and didn’t want to continue in academia. Choosing a shop name was a struggle until I thought, “I am now the Doctor of Philosophy; now I want to be a Doctor in Miniatures.”
Making miniatures is therapeutic for me, easing everyday stresses. My minis, often rustic and cozy, reflect my dream items. Each project takes different amounts of time, and I continuously seek better methods. Using basic materials and simple tools, like a craft knife, without 3D printers or laser-cut machines, adds a unique charm to my work
