Miniatura

My interest in making miniature furniture started around 15 years ago but it’s in this last few years that I’ve scaled down and I’m working more in 48th scale. I’m enjoying the challenge of scratch building furniture at this smaller quarter inch / 48th scale but I do also make the occasional piece in half inch / 24th scale.

I’m not working to any particular style or period at the moment, but creating pieces that I enjoy making and that will enable my skills to develop further. Whilst I have a small range of furniture and items at the moment, I will increase the range over time. Scratch building at this small scale is surprisingly time consuming.

The length of time to make a piece can vary from a few hours to several days depending on the number of pieces of wood that need to be cut, shaped, sanded, assembled and the type of finishes to be applied. I try and make a few of each design at a time and will have several designs on the go at any one time.

Spring Miniatura in March 2025 will be my first event. This will be the first time putting my work out there and it’ll be interesting to see what feedback I get. I’ll be bringing to Miniatura a range of handcrafted furniture in both 48th and 24th scale as well as a number of turned items that whilst made for 48th scale, could be used at 24th or maybe even 12th scale.
