Hi, I’m Denise, founder of Miniatures by Dee. I have been a creative and a lover of teeny tiny things for about 50 years but only started making miniatures last year.

 

Having been a buying visitor to Miniatura for several years, despite not owning an actual doll house; this will be my first time as a seller. I did however do a cabinet of curiosities workshop at the 100th event which was great fun.

 

I have a couple of very different styles but they all lean into paint techniques which add distressing and aging like peeled paint, crackle and my all time favourite rust. Using these techniques on new and pre loved pieces I use furniture quality paint like Farrow & Ball and Frenchic as well as model making mediums to alter them giving them that old “lived in” vibe.

 

One minute I am making a watering can look rusty, the next I am aging skeleton skulls for my dark and grungy stuff and recently I have been loving the lighter shabby chic white distressed style. All three are often on my work table at once which can be hectic but fun.
