Amanda is a glass maker specialising in the miniature. Her work is often described as ‘art with a big smile on its face’. She uses the lamp work technique to shape hot glass in a flame and although she is a familiar face at the UK’s biggest events and nicest craft fairs and art trails, this will be her first appearance at Miniatura.
Her work is bright, cheerful and reinvents the idea of little glass animals for the 21st century. With dimensions around 2- 3cm, her pieces appeal to a big fanbase of Collectors keen to add a wee Dalek, sugar mouse or sewing machine to their cabinets of curiosities or heirloom Christmas decorations. She began making glass in 1994 initially specialising in glass beads but is now known for her quirky miniatures and as the inventor of The Great Glass Advent Calendar – an annual Instagram hit since 2016. Advent Calendars are now available to commission!
She made 400 Coronaviruses during Lockdown and the original one was acquired by the Science Museum. London for their Covid 19 Collection for the Nation.
More recently she has branched out into exhibitions and installed a gleeful ‘Tiny Glass Sweetshop’ in the front window of a home for Saltaire Arts Trail in 2023 and collaborated on ‘Coventry: Lost Found Imagined’ a trail of photographs with added illustrations and fixed pieces of tiny glass celebrating her home town for Coventry City of Culture 2021.
Her first appearance at the prestigious Hay Festival of Literature last year informed her that she really needs to start making her tiny glass books much earlier this year!
Her prices range from £14 for a hanging decoration, plant decoration or free-standing piece, to £25 – £200 for framed pieces.
