As a keen miniature hobbyist, Ayari Tudor Jones will be bringing her room boxes to Miniatura. One features the home she grew up in, in Mexico City although she lived a good part of her childhood in Brooklyn and went to University in Paris to study journalism. Aged 37, Ayari realised that life would be a lot safer in the UK due to the political climate in Mexico at that time, and so she and her family moved to England.

In Mexico miniatures are even more popular than they are here, but Ayari didn’t get into miniatures until she went to a Miniatura Show. She describes that as magical and she and her husband Nick, attended workshops learning how to make anything and everything.

Another of her room boxes is of a shtetl (Jewish ghetto). Ayari said, “This is a well-researched interpretation of the way my family lived in the shtetl in Russia in the early 20th century. My grandfather was born and lived in a place very like this before he sailed to America in 1904, fleeing a war that involved the Russian Cossacks.”

While another room box is a scene showing Lady Jane Grey in Bradgate Hall where she grew up before she refused the crown of England – a topic that Ayari is fascinated with.
