Big House Mini House
Modern miniatures in 12th scale. Handmade rugs, 3D printed lighting, handmade mirrors and tables, sofas with cushions.
My love for miniatures came about when I was working as an art director and living in a downstairs apartment (aka the servant’s quarters) of a beautiful white house in Belsize Park. The building itself looked like a giant dollhouse, but inside was magnolia everything! Since I was a renter, they had strict rules about décor. I wasn’t even allowed to put a picture on a wall. I’ve always adored interior design so this was hugely frustrating for me. I decided to buy a dollhouse as a creative outlet for all my interior ideas. I decorated it in a maximalist style and it was a riot of colour! My very first miniature make for it, was a chandelier made out of multicoloured jewellery beads. I was instantly obsessed.
Fast forward a decade later, and I’d bought my own home, which I could decorate as I pleased. Whilst I was on maternity leave with my firstborn I inherited a dollhouse from my husband’s Grandma and I decorated as a replica of my actual house. If I owned it in real life I shrunk it to 12th scale. I blogged about my progress online and Big House Mini House was born.
I’ve since shrunk other peoples homes including interior designer Siobhan Murphy (@intercurve on Instagram) who very kindly gave me permission to include some of her own fun cushion designs in my miniature shop.
Most of my inspiration comes from “real life” interior designers, such as Jonathan Adler and Wendy Morrison. I miniaturised Jonathon’s rocket drink’s decanters using my 3D printer and used my Cricut maker to cut out the tiny letters.
My favourite thing about exhibiting at shows (apart from meeting all my lovely customers) is the staging. I love art directing the display and this year (2025) I’m going with a circus theme to compliment a new range of miniatures that I’ve designed featuring circus animals.
