JCI Miniatures
Handmade miniature ‘wicker’ chairs and baskets.
I discovered the magical world of dolls house miniatures when my son’s primary school was building a new classroom block and they asked the children to create their ideal classroom in a shoe box. We looked for some inspiration online to help my son make some simple furniture and I stumbled upon an Aladdin’s cave of wonders.
Before I knew it, I was well and truly hooked! With the help of a good mini friend I soon made my first basket and then, using an online tutorial, my first ‘wicker’ chair. With a lot of practise and research, I now make many different types of baskets and woven items and my own styles of chairs. I love that each piece grows and evolves as I weave it, so that even if some baskets may be similar in style they are each unique.
Every basket or chair is entirely handmade by me using florists wire and waxed linen thread and can take anything from a few hours to a few days to complete. I also hand stitch miniature patchwork using fine cotton fabric, which means that I can offer cushions to compliment my chairs. As a collector I have always really enjoyed attending fairs, meeting the makers and fellow enthusiasts, so I am delighted (if a little nervous!) to find myself on the other side of the table.
You can find pictures of my private collection as well as some of my own work on my Instagram page. I also have a simple website with a representative gallery of images of my work. If you see something that you are interested in, or have an idea of something new that I might be able to create for you, please do get in touch.
