Kate Sharp Dolls
I started collecting miniatures when I was given a corner shop for my birthday it was the best present ever and I have been crazy about all things miniature since then.
I have always enjoyed making things and I had my own business making wedding and novelty cakes, modelling small people out of fondant icing gave me a good start when it came to sculpting characters for my dolls house.
I never really know what my doll’s will be until I start to paint them and suddenly they tell me their name that’s the fun part watching the character emerge.
I get my inspiration from films, television ,the theatre and people watching, potential mini characters are everywhere .
I have many favourite craftspeople Marcia Backstrom, Gudrun Kolenda and James Carrington to name just a few. I still have the first doll I ever made an old man with two left arms ,not my best effort, I keep it to remind myself how far I have come!
