Magic Minis By Sam
Dolls, Fantasy (witch/wizard items), potion bottles and dressed furniture.
When did you start making?
I started as a teenager, making and painting lots of different things that I would show with Kastlekelms miniatures. As work took over, I wasn’t able to create as much so when the covid lockdowns happened, I decided to get back into it and build from there what has become Magic Minis
What inspired / inspires you?
Making miniatures gives me the freedom to imagine whole worlds in the palm of my hand. It’s a way to bring dreams, stories, and small wonders to life, one tiny detail at a time. Whether you’re inspired by a film, book, art, or just you’re imagination .
What was your first make?
My very first makes were miniature paintings, then I started making Audrey, Eyeball, and fantasy plants. And other fantasy items. Here’s 2 pics of my first makes.
If you sell at shows, what do you like about that?
I love selling at the shows because it feels like being part of a community that truly understands and appreciates the magic of miniature worlds.
Where do you do your work?
I mostly work in my art room at home in Marlow. Sometimes I take bits into work and do on my lunch breaks too!
What special skills / tools / materials do you use?
I use a variety…. I sculpt with polymer clay and epoxy clay. I hand paint everything. In the last few years, I’ve been learning how to digitally sculpt and have been 3d printing elements. I’ve also just starting learning metal casting, and plating, which I’m hoping to use in my minis. I work in the film industry (about 20 years now) as a prop maker\painter and try and use a lot of the skills I have picked up while working.
What other craftspeople do you admire?
I admire the work of James Carrington, Penny Thomson, and Julie Campbell. Out of the miniature world my faves are mab graves, James jean, Virginie Ropars.
