Microsculptures

My name is Marie Cohydon, I am a French artist, I started sculpting about ten years ago, what I like is the constant challenge that the brain and the hand must face together to produce a microsculpture.

I sculpt on ordinary pencil leads, on hardened glue with scalpels and I do all kinds of montages that of course take hundreds of hours of work, but when you love, you don’t count!

These microsculptures are all carried out under a microscope and measure between 0.5 mm and 3 mm, the details are imperceptible to the naked eye, you will need an X5 loupe or a jeweler’s loupe X8 to X10 to appreciate them.

The trees, the sky, the smell of dead leaves, everything that comes from nature and wildlife fascinates me. Another important thing: the dream, because I am a dreamer. The miniatures are sometimes a reflection of reality but allow it to be magnified, and sometimes, when I do a scene with birds, I can imagine myself flying, landing on the top of a big holm oak …

Through my microscope, I can’t see my hands or my fingers, I disappear, I have the feeling that only my mind and my heart remain to work. I become something of a ghost for a while, active in an area insignificant even to an ant. This job gives me the opportunity to surpass myself and I am always sure that when I start a new sculpture, I will not be disappointed.
I often need to start all over and over again. The birds are sculpted and painted with watercolors.

Aside from the birds which I adore very much, I also make tiny 1mm houses placed on pinheads, funny and friendly scenes, recently graphite mines. At the top of these little birds, houses or graphite weights, we see that the earth trembles, that the breath of the breath is a sirocco, that the heartbeats are cannon shots carried at the end of the finger. I have to admit that sometimes it frustrates me but I accepted the rules of this game for a long time and can’t wait to face it.

I love microsculptures, miniatures, dollhouses, microart, it’s been a passion since I was a child. And, I still haven’t grown up …..
