Hi folks,

I am Thierry.

 

My miniatures journey started just before the pandemic when I started converting an old radio cabinet into a Parisian style house. During lockdown, I posted the journey, stage by stage on my Instagram @minutae_miniatures, and followers began to join in watching, encouraging, commenting and admiring the transformation.

 

When I started work on the interior, ( still unfinished I hasten to add! ), I began making items to furnish it with.

 

During that time I made friends with a supplier of Jewellery findings which I used to make many different items, from mirrors to table wares etc.

Debz was so enthralled with the way I turned items once made for jewellery, and transformed them into miniature housewares etc. and kept saying that I should start selling them. I had no confidence in my abilities at the time, this was a new field to me.

 

We soon became best friends, but sadly she passed away a few years later.

 

However, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase the findings collection from her family, which I believe she would have wanted me to have, as it enabled me to carry on making miniatures.

 

Over that time, I taught my self silversmithing, lapidary and other skills to further the quality of pieces that I now make.

I have 30 years experience working in many fields including furniture restoration, upholstery, interior design, specialist paint finishes and have also owned and run “home interiors” retail shops.

 

My many hobbies include fashion, art and design, etc. all of which enable me to bring all of these skills into creating a wide variety of items using many different materials in many different styles.

 

I mostly work in 1/12th scale and love working with repurposed materials like old jewellery, silver, crystal, semi precious stones, natural materials such as coral and shell, salvaged items and many more, giving them a new life in miniature.

 

Early on, one of my Instagram followers, Suzanne of @suzannesminis contacted me and commissioned several pieces of museum/exhibition quality, challenging me further to develop and hone my skills, In particular, to keep every detail as authentic to its original full size version. Through her encouragement and my new found confidence I finally took my pieces to market, and launched myself at KDF last November.

 

Wow, what an experience, I’ve found a whole new “family” of people passionate about tiny things, made great friends and felt truly welcomed into the most amazing community of collectors, hobbyists, artisans, makers, creators and retailers.

 

I feel so honoured!!!
