Perri Edwards of Perri’s Miniatures is looking forward to being at the next Miniatura Show with her speciality 1/12th and 1/24th scale shoes, boots, hats, bags, lingerie and accessories made from leather, cotton and silk. And she’s hoping that customers old and new will pop by say hello and take a look at the beautiful new miniatures she has been making.

Until 2016 Perri had taken a break from the miniature scene to run a guest house in Paignton, Devon with her husband, Allan, which proved very successful for them. Making miniatures however, is in Perri’s blood and after deciding to move back to Sussex to be closer to the family and their eight grandchildren, Perri also returned to her miniatures.

Chatting to Miniatura, she said: “I’ve always loved dolls’ houses. Mum has always made little mice from felt and lace, and still does today. So Dad would make 1/16th scale dolls’ houses for the mice to live in for us.”

Perri recalled going to her very first dolls’ house fair at Hove Town Hall with her mum and sister never realising such things existed. She said that while everything was lovely, they also knew that they could make things themselves. She started making flowers and shoes, and although she modestly admits that her first attempts were not as good as she would have liked, they sold out in ten minutes. “I didn’t even get chance to set them out properly!”

Her work got better and better and the demand for her items got greater and greater. Eventually she was working from early morning to late at night. She had a website, a catalogue and was kept very busy keeping up with demand.

Her plan now is to make her miniatures at a more leisurely pace, selling through her Facebook page and doing just two shows a year – The Miniatura Spring and Autumn Shows naturally.
