The Giant Dolls’ House Project

The Giant Dolls’ House Project is a social arts initiative that invites people of all ages and backgrounds to make a miniature room in a shoebox around a theme. Participants, children from 3-100 years old, use everyday materials—such as fabric scraps, paper, and found objects—to build their own unique “dolls’ house” spaces, each accompanied by a personal story or explanation.
The project’s aims to show the importance of a home and community for all. It combines making, thinking with your hands, and community by organising workshops around a theme that participants can engage with in their own way and at their own level, avoiding leading questions. The project therefore aims to foster dialogue, in an informal manner, and raise awareness about issues like community, homelessness, displacement, and the importance of belonging, also highlighting the experiences of refugees and those without stable housing. It seeks to highlight what people have in common, rather than what divides them.
