Ted and Yvonne Bowness started their miniature journey over 20 years ago when Ted’s health meant an early retirement. He wasn’t ready to stop working though and so created his own job as a miniaturist.
Their approach to making is very much centred on the customer. They ask them “Who’s it for?” and “What’s its purpose?” Then they tailor the piece to the customer’s needs.
Spending 8 or 9 hours a day, working in every room in the house, Ted is busier now than he ever was before retirement.
They enjoy Miniatura and are always really excited to show their work there. They usually bring roomboxes to show their work off in the best possible light (a haberdashers, a dress shop, a wedding and hat shop). These go alongside their range of dressed beds, sheds and garden furniture and a 1/24th range of miniatures.
Ted says that exhibiting at Miniatura is “is great and we wish we had done it years ago”.
