With Cindrella’s German style miniatures you are going to have a ball! Naturally it will have to be a socially distanced ball with more focus on delightful miniature furniture and less on large gowns and lost glass slippers.
So we’re not talking pantos, oh no we’re not, as there aren’t any happening this year. Or any other shows come to that, including our own Miniatura exhibitions. Let’s hope 2021 will prove to be a better year for getting out and about. Then maybe we can all say that these troubles are “behind you!”.
And hopefully when you get to the shows you will also see Cinderella – Cinderella Mode in Miniatur, in fact, which is one of Miniatura’s exhibitors. The artisan behind the scenes is German born Silvia Leiner.
Making miniatures for over 25 years
Silvia supplies collectors and miniaturists with handcrafted dressed and undressed miniature dolls, doll kits and everything necessary to dress dolls and drape and soft furnish a dolls house. She’s been doing this for more than 25 years. For the last 9 years or so, she has also been making 1/48 scale German-styled furniture.
Chatting to Sylvia at the 2019 Autumn Miniatura Show she explained, “My son, Robin loves Petite Properties but he had difficulties with making the furniture; so he talked me into making some ready-made items.”
Inspired by famous artists and the German style
Silvia is hugely inspired by the world-famous dolls house maker, Moritz Gottschalk (1892-1931). This was after his original factory illustrations came to light and were published – much to the delight of dolls house lovers everywhere. She also finds inspiration from the Jugendstil style of furniture, popular in Germany from about 1895 to 1910. In contrast to the dark furniture styles of previous eras, this furniture was painted white. At her home which is now Wales, after moving to the UK a little over four years ago from Stuttgart, Germany, she has some antique items in full size as well as her miniatures. These include a 1894 kitchen dresser which belonged to her family in Stuttgart.
“Someone brought a Jugendstil jug to the Antiques Roadshow which was broadcasted a while back,” said Silvia. “It made me aware that Jugendstil is entirely German and not known in the UK. So, it really is something new here. I hope people will like it!”
